Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Covered circular box, in red lacquer decorated with a geometric medallion, in gold lacquer with mother-of-pearl and bone inlaid decoration of wisteria and bird resting on a hira maki-e background depicting the shores of a lake. The rim is decorated with leiwen, foliage, foaming waves and Greek friezes. Kazuharu stamp on the lid. Cracking and wear, minor chips. L. 15 cm H. 9 cm
