Full contemporary fawn calf, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt lion in spandrels repeated on spine, ornate ribbed spine, red morocco title-piece. 2 volumes in 1 in-12. 4 [ff], 170 pp; 4 [ff], 204 pp, 3 [ff]. "The sole purpose of my undertaking is to discover the truth, by attempting to restore to their true state the great men who were made monks after their death...". The author lists all the false monks.
