COWPER, WILLIAM. Anatomia corporum humanorum centum et viginti tabuli. Utrecht, Nicolaum Muntendam, 1750. 1 vol. large in-folio. Full contemporary basane, spine ribbed. Binding damaged with tears and spotting, first cover partly detached. As is. Frontispiece, (70 ff.), 120 plates. One of the great anatomy books of the 18th century. This is the second edition of the Latin translation by William Dundass. The English original appeared in Oxford in 1697 and the first Latin edition in 1739. This edition consists of a frontispiece and 120 plates, each with its description, of which one is unnumbered (complement to plate 10), 105 numbered from 1 to 105, 9 numbered from 1 to 9 and 5 at the end numbered from 1 to 5 spread over 4 leaves. Cowper is the author of only the 9 plates of Myology, the first 106 being those of Bidloo found in his 1685 collection entitled Anatomia humani corporis. The last 5 plates on the organs of reproduction are added to the edition. Bunet, II, 398. Heavy foxing on 5 plates. Wormholes in the margins of about ten plates.
