PAIR OF OVAL SALONS in silver, with an openwork gallery, sta - Lot 344
PAIR OF OVAL SALONS in silver, with an openwork gallery, standing on four hoof feet. Decoration in repoussé reproducing very precisely the aesthetics of the Palais Royal in Paris with arcades, pillars, grills and lights, a frieze of fleur-de-lys on the upper edge. Paris 1786-1789. Complete with blue interior glassware. Weight: 73.8 g. Bibliographic references: the current appearance of the Palais Royal was designed in 1781 when the Duke of Chartres, cousin of Louis XVI, obtained the king's permission to subdivide around the garden. The architect Victor LOUIS, known for the construction of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, was chosen. He designs 180 arcades separated by corynthian pilasters, lit by suspended streetlights. A mustard maker of the same model appears in the David WEILL collection (see Henry NOCQ "Le poinçon de Paris" tome III page 267 by Pierre-Médard MOTHET).
