(Yellowed paper, small stains, small tears). Armand Bernard (1829-1894) was a French painter specializing in historical landscapes. Born in Cormatin, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon under Claude Bonnefond, then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Hippolyte and Paul Flandrin. In 1854, Armand Bernand won the Prix de Rome for his work "Lycidas et Méris", which enabled him to stay at the Académie de France in Rome from 1855 to 1857. On his return to France, he took part in the creation of panoramas in Paris and exhibited regularly at the Salon. He also worked for the Duc d'Aumale, decorating the Grandstand at the Château de Chantilly. Notable works include "Vue de l'Ariccia" and "Le Mont Aiguille". His works are in the Musée Condé, the Monastère de Brou, Macon, Annecy, etc.
