Vietnam, early 19th century, Nguyen dynasty, reign of Minh Mang (1820-1841), Two cups in Hué blue porcelain, on a small ring heel, decorated with a dragon associated with the Emperor, expressing power, nobility and prosperity, confronted by a phoenix symbolizing the Empress, allegory of immortality, peace and harmony, pursuing the sacred flaming jewel above foaming waves, among clouds in the form of ruyi. Nhât "sun" mark on base. One crack on one, three cracks and two chips on the other. Diam. 19 cm and Diam. 18.6 cm N.B. The "Nhật" (日) mark, meaning "sun" in Vietnamese, indicates that the porcelains were destined for the Vietnamese imperial court, particularly during the reign of Emperor Minh Mạng (1791-1841).
