Safavid badiye bowl Tin-plated copper, engraved and inlaid with black paste Iran, 17th century The engraved decoration on the exterior consists of a register of cartouches alternating figures, horsemen and various animal fights, topped by a calligraphic frieze featuring poetic verses. On the base (restored) is a medallion with an inscription. Figurative decorations like this one are rare on metalware of this period, which is more often adorned with vegetal and arabesque decorations.
