Ink, pigments and gold on paper, embossed and gilded leather binding
Ottoman world, circa 1800
Manuscript opening with an opening bifolio richly illuminated with mandorles and floral motifs in polychrome and gold. The text in naskh script in black and red ink is spread over 13 lines per page, within polychrome and gold framing fillets, with gold pastilles separating the verses. The leather binding is stamped and gilded with mandorls and spandrels adorned with composite flowers.
