Thomas COMPIGNÉ (18th century) Silver-plated pewter medallion depicting a view of Paris taken from Pont-Royal, according to his painting presented to the King on August 3, 1792. 18th century. Total diameter: 9.3 cm. (wear) Thomas Compigné, Tabletier privilégié du roi Louis XV, set up shop at the "Roi David" sign on rue Greneta, sold "boxes, tric-trac, checkers and chess accessories, snuffboxes and cane knobs or landscape miniatures". His specialty was small paintings in pewter, stamped and enhanced with gold, then gouache and varnish, which took the name "Compigné".
