Glazed red half calf, gilt fillet on boards, three gilt bats at top of upper board, smooth spine decorated with gilt stars, gilt title and author, gilt head, covers with illustrations. Rare first edition. With a fine autograph dispatch: "Le maître des sentences à la maîtresse de ses jours. 28.12.17". Albert Puyou, comte de Pouvourville, (Georges-Albert Puyou de Pouvourville) was an orientalist and esotericist. Educated by a master of Chinese Taoism in Asia, he was initiated into the secrets of this philosophy and took the pseudonym Matgioi (the day eye) to try to spread this teaching in France.
