CANADA (Anticosti Island)- Chocolat MENIER
Rare personal album by Mr. Henri MENIER (heir to the famous chocolate factory founded by his grandfather in 1816) presenting 53 photographs relating to Anticosti Island (views, sailboat, port, railroad, houses, port, factory interiors, interior and exterior castles, etc.).
Circa 1900-1910
28 x 38 cm (photos, approx. each) - 38.5 x 49.5 cm (album), bound in the figure of Henri MENIER (spine damaged)
The island of Anticosti, at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River in Canada, was bought by Mr. Henri MENIER in 1895. He built a villa-chateau at Ellisbay, which became PORT-MENIER, and created a village, a port and numerous infrastructures on the island (factory, railway line, canals, etc.) He died in 1913, and in 1926 his brother Gaston Menier sold the island to a company that continued to exploit the established industries and natural resources.
