China, Qianlong mark and period (1735-1796) Rare small bronze double-vase, with a gilt-splashed and gold patina, formed by two joined pear-shaped vases, the necks highlighted with cords and decorated in relief with dragons with stylized angular bodies. Zoomorphic heads hold rings forming handles, resting on friezes of archaic cicadas. Chilong interlacing completes the ornamentation. Qianlong Nian Zhi" kaishu mark in slight relief on the base of the larger one. H. 8.5 cm L. 8.5 cm Note: This small vase would have found a place on a desk, serving more as an ornament than a specific function. - A similar example is preserved in the Qing Court Collection at the National Palace Museum in Taipei. - Others are also reproduced in publications relating to the W.W. Winkworth and Robert H. Clague collections. - This double vase can also be compared with an example sold at Sotheby's on April 22, 2021 from the Sydney L.
