Second edition of this monumental legal and scholarly achievement. This work is a compilation of all the laws of the Roman Empire since the year 312 (the reign of Constantine), commissioned by Emperor Theodosius II (Emperor of the East) and co-emperor Valentinian III (Emperor of the West), and first published in 438. This edition, with commentary by Godefroy, is the first modern edition of the Codex. The Theodosian Code became the most authoritative form of Roman law in Western Europe, and was in force throughout the Middle Ages.
Very fine set in full contemporary vellum. Volume VI in two volumes.
