Curious and rare engraved bronze cylinder; at one end, a representation of the equestrian statue erected Place Louis XV, at the opposite, a coat of arms under a crown* forming a seal. The cylinder is engraved with the text "Portion de la matière qui a été employée pour la fonte de la statue équestre du roi Louis XV coulée au Roule le 6 may 1758/Deux tiers jaune et un tiers rouge". 18th century (minor knocks). Length 10.9 cm. * The coat of arms of Jacques-Jérôme Jollivet de Vannes (March 16, 1712, Falaise - November 1, 1792, Paris), equerry, son of Hiérosme Jollivet, Directeur des Aides and Marie Anne Dumayne, King's Counselor in 1753, Provost General of the Ile de France, prosecutor and lawyer for the King and the city of Paris, received in survivorship from M. Antoine Moriau, on February 4, 1755. In 1786, he was appointed Honorary Public Prosecutor at Paris City Hall. On June 27, 1748, the aldermen of Paris proposed to the King the erection of an equestrian statue in his honor in the axis of the Grande Allée des Tuileries, at the untouched end of the palace gardens. From November 1752 to January 1757, Bouchardon worked on the plaster model of the horse and rider group, to scale. Casting took place on May 6, 1758. On August 11, 1792, the ensemble was destroyed by the revolutionaries.
