Set of two swords attributed to dragoon officers. - Lot 67
Set of two swords attributed to dragoon officers. Comprising: -A British officer's sword. Gilt bronze mounting. Faceted pommel chased with rocailles and topped with a button. Flat jointed bow with cut sides and straight quillon decorated with stylized acanthus leaves in the extension. Top with symmetrical, finely chased double pontats. Wooden spindle with silver filigree. Single-edged straight blade produced in Solingen. Engraved with the figure of King George II of England under a crown, the arms of England (1727-1860) and the motto "DIEU EST MON DROIT" ("GOD IS MY RIGHT"). No scabbard, restoration to the quillon and traces of oxidation. Mid 18th century. An officer's sword. Gilt bronze mounting. Faceted pommel chased with rocailles and topped with a button. Flat jointed arch with cut sides and straight quillon decorated with stylized acanthus leaves in the extension (slightly twisted). Top with symmetrical double pontats, one of which is poyant (accident to the hinge, finely chiseled. Carried wooden spindle. Single-edged, straight, screw-mounted blade produced in Solingen. One-third engraved with trophies and vegetal decorations. No scabbard, traces of oxidation. Mid 18th century.
