Chine, période Ming, XVIe-XVIIe siècle Gilded bronze subject representing the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, or Guanshiyin, "lord who observes from above", personification of compassion, depicted seated in padmasana, right hand raised in vitarka-mudra, gesture of argumentation, left hand holding the ambrosia cup in front of him; the deity is richly adorned with jewels and crowned with a tiara featuring a small figure of Buddha Amitabha. (The tip of the index finger on the right hand is missing, the base is lotiform). H. 28.5 cm.
