Lower left part (two sheets of eight) of the general map of the Pyrenees Mountains, and parts of the kingdoms of France and Spain / by Sr. Roussel ; J.B. Delahaye scrip. ; A. Coquart fecit. France, ca. 1730. Two sheets (complete map in eight sheets) of this rare map of the Pyrenees, with reversed orientation, covering here the Roussillon and part of Catalonia. Monumental map on strong paper, with full margins. Canvas map (24 sections of maps laminated). On the back, laminated label: "Goujon, Colleur et Marchand de cartes Geographiques, Rue de Bacq n. 6, Paris" and ink inscription: "Pyrénées. Perpignan"; lower left corner: "J.B. Delahaye scrip. [DELAHAYE (Jean-Baptiste-Henri (died c. 1755)]. Map surrounded by a framing border on two sides only. Dimensions: 595 x 985 mm. The Roussel map is a map of the entire Pyrenees, commissioned by the Regent for military purposes, drawn between 1716 and 1719 by Roussel, king's engineer, and La Blottière, geographer engineer, and engraved in 1730. According to the custom for military maps of the time the south is at the top, in the position of a territory to be conquered. See : A.
