[CHER]. [CHARENTON (Abbaye de)]. Histoire et recueil des vies des abbesses de Notre-Dame de Bellevaux de Charenton sise à Charenton-du-Cher In French, manuscript on paper, unbound, 142 pp. in-4. Dimensions : 180 x 240 mm. France, 18th century (the last abbesses mentioned are from the end of the 17th century) The foundation was confirmed by Archbishop Pierre de La Châtre of Bourges in 1154. The first known abbess is Agnes (around 1130 - 1177). Popes Eugene III and Alexander III confirmed the abbey's assets as well as the archbishop of Bourges Pierre de Sully. The last abbess mentioned is Renée de Mesgrigny (1675-1698). Several leaves evoke important sources for the history of the abbey of Charenton.
