Full chocolate glazed calf, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, ribbed spine, gilt flower motif in the boxes, gilt author, title and tomaison, gilt date in the tail, inner scroll, gilt edges. Counterfeit of the edition of the fermiers généraux; title vignette, portrait of the author by Rigaud, engraved by Savart, dated 1796, a figure of a satyr, a header, 39 off-text engravings in volume I; title vignette, figure with cherubs, a header, 41 off-text engravings in volume 2. Numerous culs-de-lampe. Beautiful copies in early 19th century binding. Very light angular staining on a few leaves of volume II, angular staining p191 of volume I.
