[DECORATIVE ARTS]. Photographic archive related to the House - Lot 286
[DECORATIVE ARTS]. Photographic archive related to the Household Art Shows held at the Grand Palais from 1950 to 1960. Archive Mme Lefebvre-Villardebo. Set of 69 photographs by R. Gauthier, silver prints (dim. approx. 222 x 280 mm), photographer's stamp on the back, some photographs have captions on the back with the names of the decorators. The Salon des Arts Ménagers, created in 1923 by Jules-Louis Breton, director of the Office National des Recherches et des Inventions, aimed to promote and exhibit the latest technical innovations in household appliances. Installed in the Grand Palais in 1926, it reached its peak in the 1950s, at the beginning of the "Trente Glorieuses", and took a "interior design" turn. After a nine-year interruption, the Salon was relaunched at the Grand Palais in 1948. Paul Breton, general commissioner, organized the promotion of contemporary furniture creation. A section, presented under the title "Le Foyer d'aujourd'hui" (The Home of Today), included a section reserved for the rising generation of designers. "Le Foyer d'aujourd'hui" will thus become "the" showcase of innovations thanks to a rigorous selection by a jury. The more classic themes vary according to the year: "To each his own collection", "The home of a novel hero", "The home of a Parisian artist", "From the thatched cottage to the castle", "Antique furniture in modern homes", "The great hours of the woman" and passim.
