[AEROSTATION]. [VALLET]. Transcript of a letter from Vallet regarding a project for a "winged balloon". Dated from the beginning of the XIXth c. (?) In French, 2 small folio pages, dated January 9, 1784 (date of the transcribed letter, not necessarily date of transcription). Stamp on the back of the "Bibliothèque de Hureau de Villeneuve", secretary in 1870 of the Société de Navigation Aérienne. Incipit: "Letter from M. Vallet, dated Javelle, January 4, 1784, in which he gives an account of the experiences which must serve as a basis for the means of direction which he wants to attempt...". Another date at the end of the document indicates January 9, 1784. M. Edmond Marey-Monge : "M. Vallet, placed in a stretcher suspended from a rope, made wings act with the help of which he advanced about 6 meters from the plumb line..." (Etudes sur l'aérostation, Paris, 1847, p. 37). In August 1785, Vallet and Alban go up with the count of Artois in an aerostat of their manufacture.
