Gold APPLIQUE MEDAL, lost wax casting, white opaque enamel, green, blue, sky blue and red translucent enamels representing the Adoration of the Magi. France, second half of the 16th century H. 2.4 cm - L. 2.1 cm In a base with a Plexiglas magnifying glass 3 000/5 000 This small medallion was probably an applique to adorn a pendentive-reliquary. The Musée de Picardie in Amiens has a reliquary pendant (inv M.P.M, 3063.555.5.2 on deposit at the Musée Nationale de la Renaissance - Château d'Ecouen) with an applique of the same type. Also a pendant-reliquary kept at the Bibliothèque municipale de Rouen, deposit at the Musée des Antiquités de Rouen (inv D.70.5) is decorated with a similar applique in enamelled gold representing Noli Me tangere. - 140 - MARIE MADELEINE in mother-of-pearl carved and engraved.
