LARGE AND IMPORTANT PLAQUE in marble and hard stones marquet - Lot 137
LARGE AND IMPORTANT PLAQUE in marble and hard stones marquetry representing a vase loaded with flowers resting on a rectangular entablature imitating a piece of petrified wood on which are positioned two birds facing each other above which fly two butterflies; the bouquet, composed in particular of fuchsias, roses, narcissus and reeds, escapes from the globular vase with detached acanthus leaves; the base with gadroons and the pedestal with channels. The whole, realized in jasper, lapis lazuli, agate, red jasper of Sicily and diaspro marble of Bohemia, stands out on a black background of Paragon. Florentine work, from the first third of the 17th century, around 1625. It is presented in a carved and gilded wooden frame. Plate : Height 59,7cm ; width 43,2cm. Overall : Height 71,3cm ; width 55,7cm. Cracks Of exceptional dimensions, the plate we propose is among the most elaborate creations of the Florentine workshops of the first third of the 17th century. For known works realized in the same spirit and also representing vases loaded with flowers, let us quote particularly: a first plate of the XVIIth century which is preserved in the Museo dell'Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence (see F. Rossi, La pittura di pietra, Giunti Gruppo Editoriale, Firenze, 1995, p.90); as well as a second one, dated from the first quarter of the 17th century and attributed to the Florentine workshops, which forms the central interior part of a cabinet of Melchior Baumgartner and was formerly in the Galerie Sarti in Paris (illustrated in the catalog of the Galerie Sarti, " Fastueux objets en marbres et pierres dures ", Catalogue n°7, London, 2006, p.93); finally, let us mention a last plate, attached to the workshop of Corbarelli, which is exposed in the church Santa Giustina in Padua (reproduced in A. Giusti, La marqueterie de pierres dures, Édition Citadelles & Mazenod, Paris, 2005, p.108, fig.88). A copy of the certificate dated August 2002 established by Alvar Gonzales-Palacios will be given to the buyer. This lot was described by the Cabinet Etienne-Molinier
