CEREMONIAL SWORD ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEPH JÉRÔME SIMÉON 1749-1842. FIRST EMPIRE MODIFIED RESTORATION. Mounting in vermeil and mother-of-pearl. Pommel in the shape of a helmet with folded feathers. Mother-of-pearl plates decorated with the line. Guard brought back under the Restoration with two symmetrical straight quillons decorated with stylized acanthus leaves and ends in the form of shields, body knot with the arms of France encircled by an olive tree crown under the Royal crown. Straight double-edged flat blade of Solingen decorated with trophies and floral motifs gilded in the third part with the rest of the original blue, traces of oxidation. Wooden scabbard covered with reptile skin with two vermeil fittings. Chape with two rings of suspension finely chiseled with decorations of stylized plants on amatite bottom ending by a half-circle representing a spider's web often associated with the attachment to the person of the Emperor. Bouterolle resuming the spider's web, bordered by a frieze ending with stylized acanthus leaves, symmetrical stinger. Total length 90cm. France First Empire period, modified under the Restoration. It is accompanied by a brass plaque chiseled "Joseph Jerome Cte Simeon/Minister of State Peer of France hereditary 1749-1842". Gilt hallmark with lictor beam: France, 1798-1809. JOSEPH JÉRÔME CTE SIMÉON. Professor of law at the university of Aix-en-Provence in 1778. Took part in 1793 in the federalist movement of the Midi. He was a deputy in the Council of 500 in 1795 and was appointed tribune in the year VIII. He played an important role in the preparation of the French Civil Code. In 1804, he was appointed Minister of the Interior and President of the Council of State of King Jerome of Westphalia in 1807. Prefect of the North under the First Restoration, he then sat in the House of Representatives during the Hundred Days before taking up his seat in the Council of State in 1815. Created Count in 1818 and Peer of France in 1821 He was also one of the first members of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. Finally, he became first president of the Court of Auditors from May 1837 to March 1839.
