PAIR OF FLINTLOCK PISTOLS BY CASSAIGNARD IN NANTES. Attributed to the navy. Flintlock locks, flat-bodied hammers in the round (fel), guilloche screws. Round blackened double-registered barrels engraved with military trophies and interlacing with good remains of gilding, sights on radiating background. Chiseled walnut stocks, all iron fittings (accident to the wood at the level of a cap). Ovoid caps decorated with Roman soldiers on amatized backgrounds. Counter plate decorated with foliage and engraved with the line. Chiseled bridges with decorations in continuation of the counter plate. Horn rods in blackened wood, one tip for the drawbar, the other for the greasing cloth. Good mechanics. Total length 28 cm. French work from the second half of the 18th century. 1 000/1 500 CASSAIGNARD PIERRE 1708-1786. Master harquebusier in Nantes. Appointed juror of the master harquebusiers around 1734-1737.
