École FRANÇAISE du XVIIIe siècle, dans le gout de PARMESAN - Lot 28
École FRANÇAISE du XVIIIe siècle, dans le gout de PARMESAN St. Catherine of Alexandria with Putti Oak panel, three boards, not parqueted 33 x 24 cm The painting is inspired by the St. Catherine with Putti painted by Parmesan around 1523-1524 in the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt (see M. Di Giampaolo, Parmesan, complete catalog, Paris, 1992, no. 12, reproduced). The Frankfurt composition must have been famous, as evidenced by the two nearby paintings in the Museo Nationale di Parma and the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna, both from the mid-seventeenth century (M. Di Giampaolo, Parmesan, complete catalog, Paris, 1992, p. 50, n. 12). Our painting is based on these two examples.
