Rare PAIR OF COQUETIERS of form Médicis out of gilded silver, the cup and the pièdouche underlined of concentric nets. Paris 1798-1809. Goldsmith : Martin-Guillaume BIENNAIS. Original vermeil. Weight : 96 g. Official silversmith of the Emperor NAPOLEON I, BIENNAIS had a store at the sign of "Au Singe Violet", rue Saint Honoré in Paris (his silversmith's hallmark has for different a seated monkey). Direct competitor of the silversmith Jean-Baptiste-Claude ODIOT, creator of BONAPARTE's consular sword, also installed in rue Saint Honoré, he became the supplier of the First Consul at the Tuileries and at Saint-Cloud, then obtained from 1802 the exclusivity of the supplies for the table of the Emperor and the imperial family, as well as of many European courts.
