MOGHOLE EGGER Brass with engraved decoration - Lot 191
MOGHOLE EGGER Brass with engraved decoration This ewer of typical Moghul form presents an engraved floral decoration on all its surface. A central ovoid medallion with an engraved bouquet decorates the pear-shaped body, on a background of floral registers and stylized leaves. Also typical of Mughal decoration, the sinuous handle evokes the makara, the marine animal vehicle of the Ganga goddess. The pourer has an engraved decoration of fleurons. It is topped by a domed lid decorated with a handle evoking a flower bud. India, 18th century H. 32 cm For a comparable example, see : Zebrowski, M. (1997) Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India, London: Alexandria Press in Association with Laurence King, p. 164, Fig. 234. This lot was described by Alexis Renard
