Jean -Baptiste Désiré TROIVAUX, d'après François GERARD ( ? 1788 - Paris 1860) Portrait of the King of Rome Watercolor over black stone strokes Signed lower right Troivaux 19 x 13 cm (missing) Our portrait is a reprise of the painting by Baron Gérard painted in 1812 and preserved at the Château de Fontainebleau. (see X. Salmon, Catalogue of the exhibition Peintre des rois, roi des peintres François Gérard portraitiste, Château de Fontainebleau, 2014, n° 24, reproduced). Considered one of the most talented portraitists of his time, the miniaturist Troivaux also made numerous watercolor portraits. He exhibited at the Salon between 1827 and 1841.
