ÉCOLE d'AMÉRIQUE du SUD du XVIIIe siècle - Lot 10
ÉCOLE d'AMÉRIQUE du SUD du XVIIIe siècle The Martyrdom of Tunupa On its original canvas 49 x 66 cm During the evangelization of the province of El Collao by the Spanish, the figure of Saint Bartholomew was superimposed on that of the indigenous deity Tunupa. The identification of the saint with Tunupa probably derives from the common attributes of the two figures, both being dressed in white, associated with paradise and darkness. This painting presents in an original way the martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew under the features of Tunupa
