ROMA. Essay on the History of Trade in Venice. Paris, P. G. Le Mercier fils & A. Morin, 1729. 1 vol. in-12. Full tan calf, gilt arms, triple gilt fillet in frame, ornate ribbed spine, red morocco title-piece. Barbier specifies on the author: "I have copied on the copy of this work that the cardinal de la Luzerne possessed, a note as follows: "M. Roma, supposedly his real name, was known to Mr. Nanisse, living with Mr. Philippe Masson, banker, rue Thibautodé, in Paris, and to a lawyer at the council, named Deprime. He extracted this book from manuscripts concerning the commerce of Italy, 3 vols. in-fol. It must be passed to Berlin, in the hope of finding employment there in the ministry of finance." Copy of Jean-Joseph de Bourguignon-Bussière, (1721-18..) with his motto: "Surrectus contra Hostem". Barbier, II, 209. O.H.R. pl. 2245. Dull corners.
