MARALDI, Jean-Dominique. Knowledge of the times for the leap year 1740. To the meridian of Paris. Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1740. 1 vol. in-12. Contemporary red morocco, gilt arms in the centre of the boards, triple fillet, spine with gilt arms, gilt title and date. Original edition. The work is illustrated with 3 intaglio engravings: 1 frontispiece drawn and engraved by Philippe Simonneau, 1 folding plate representing stars, animals and characters (unsigned composition) and 1 folding plate representing the terrestrial globe drawn and engraved by Simonneau. It also includes a folding map of France engraved in intaglio by Guillaume Delisle. >Copy with the arms of Louis-Henri de Bourbon, prince of Condé, duke of Bourbon, Bourbonnais, Enghien and Guise (1692-1740). A peer of France, he was notably superintendent of the education of Louis XV, prime minister in 1723 on the death of the Regent. "This prince, after his fall from the ministry, had retired to his residence at Chantilly; there he devoted himself to the study of chemistry and natural history, of which he formed valuable collections."
