The Ecclesiastes of Solomon translated into French. With an explanation drawn from the SS. Pères, & Auteurs Ecclesiastiques. Paris, Pierre Le Petit, 1679. 1 vol. in-12. Full blond glazed calf, gilt arms in the centre of the boards, triple gilt fillet in frame, spine ribbed with a title-piece and parts with a red morocco crowned cipher, alternating with a gilt cipher stamped in the caissons, gilt edges. Title vignette. Fourth edition. This is the copy of Paulin Prondre (or Pronde), sieur de Guermantes et de Bussy, councillor secretary of the King, house and crown of France, and of his finances in 1702, grand auditor of France, general receiver of Finances in Lyon and President of the Chamber of Accounts of Paris. "The books of this provenance, generally very well bound, bear on the spine or corners the crowned cipher of their owner in addition to his arms". O.H.R. pl. 1951. Important scorched stain on page 5, small stain in margin of page 400. Traces of folding at the corner of some leaves. Corners dulled, lacking at the top cover, beginning of a crack at the bottom of the spine.
