Full contemporary calf, gilt coat of arms in the centre of the covers, triple gilt fillet in the frame, spine decorated with nerves, gilt title and author. 6 [ff], 585 pp. Portrait-frontispice of Petrus Puteanus, by Nantueil. First edition published by Jacques Dupuy, the author's brother Lawyer at the Parliament of Paris, humanist scholar in the best tradition, Pierre Dupuy (1582-1651) was Keeper of the King's Library from 1645 jointly with his brother, and it is partly there, as well as in the treasure of the Charters, that he drew the essential of the documentation necessary for the work. > Copy of Mathieu de Sève, baron de Fléchères, provost of the merchants of the city of Lyon.
