Full calf XVII, squirrel's iron in spandrels, spine decorated with the same irons, red morocco title-piece. [2]ff, 171 ff, [1]f. "The philippics must be four in number. The first two, printed in 1592, have 2ff. preliminaries, 170ff. of text, and 1 f. of errata; 4 f. preliminaries, and 181 ff. of text. The other two did not appear until 1611. Brunet-IV-610. The first edition of this harangue against the kingdom of Spain and the bulls of Pope Clement XIV. Copy with the mark of Nicolas Fouquet (1615 - 1680) stamped in the spandrels. "Finally, some books were found with only a squirrel stamped in the middle of the boards, sometimes repeated at the corners or even only stamped on the spine. We believe that this iron must have been engraved by the superintendent and then used by other members of the Fouquet family." Handwritten bookplate on title page of Claude Senet.
