CASSIODORE. Magni Aurelii Cassiodori Senatoris V.C Variarum libri XII & Chronicon, ad Theodoricum Regem. Paris, Sebastianum Nivellum, 1589. 1 vol. in-folio. Full contemporary blond calf, gilt arms in the centre of the boards, double gilt fillet in the border, gilt cross and star in the corners, gilt spine, gilt author. 6]ff, 484pp (Fii); 34pp, then from 492 (t) to 516pp, [22]ff index. Book S has only two leaves. Well completed, in different pagination, between pages 484 and 492: Edictum Theoderici Regis Italiae. C. Solii Apollinaris sidonii arvernorum episcopi de Theodorico Rege epistola. It is known that Sebastien Nivelle produced editions of Cassiodorus, with variations. For example by introducing, as in this copy, a work by Sidoine Apollinaire, with the scientific editor Pierre Pithou, in 1589. Printer's mark on the last leaf: "Lutetiae Parisiorum ex typographia Henrici Thierry Mense Decembri 1578." With the arms of Claude Frère, lord of Crolles, son of Géraud. He was regent at the University of Valence, in 1592. He became first president at the Parliament of Grenoble, in 1616. Bookplate on the upper back cover: Cte Alphonse de la Guère. Handwritten signature on the title page covered with a white paper, large coat of arms pasted on the back of the title page. O.H.R. pl. 1498. Rubbing, spidermites and damages to the binding. Smudging at the end of the volume. Pagination error.
