FOLLOWER OF CASPAR GRAS (BAD MERGENTHEIM, GERMANY 1585 - SCHWAZ, AUSTRIA, 1674) Leaping lion Bronze with brown patina. 18th century On a marble plinth with molded base L.. 24.5 cm (perforation on the lion's back) A child in bronze with brown patina is attached This threatening lion is one of two elements of a group showing the wild beast attacking a horse from below. Only four examples of this lion are known today. This representation comes from the animal art of the Italian Renaissance. The theme of animal combat was later taken up to celebrate the exercise of power by the sovereign, particularly the Habsburgs in Innsbruck, where this model was created.
