The first castle of La Motte-aux-Bois was built in 1065 by Robert le Frison, Count of Flanders. It remained for a long time in the possession of the Counts of Flanders and then the Dukes of Burgundy, before becoming the property of the Counts of Morbecque. The castle was ruined by the wars of the seventeenth century taken by the French in 1645, dismantled by order of Turenne, returned to Spain by the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, it was rebuilt in 1660 in the state close to the present. The castle now houses the Aeronautical Institute Amaury de la Grange. The library of the castle of La Motte-au-Bois is the headquarters of the association "Memory of Stones" which is responsible for safeguarding the heritage related to the castle.
