École Française du XIXe siècle The capture of the Bastille, the garrison surrenders Canvas Frameless 69 x 101 cm (restorations and wear and tear) On July 14, 1789, following the failure of negotiations between delegations of revolutionaries and the governor of the Bastille, the garrison defending the building surrendered at 5 p.m., which is depicted here from the viewpoint of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. The garrison as well as the governor of Launay will be arrested and taken to the Town Hall for trial. Arriving in Strike Square, the Governor of Launay will be lynched and shot.
