JEAN-BAPTISTE LEFEBVRE (1846-1906) Ivory crucifix representing Christ wearing his crown of thorns, dressed in perizonium held by a double rope forming openwork knots. On a blackened wooden cross. Signed Lefebvre on the left side of the perizonium. Late 19th - early 20th century Christ H.: 28 cm - W: 20 cm Cross H.: 46 cm - W: 23 cm Born in Dieppe in 1846 in a family of ivory makers, he excels in this material. In 1903, Charles LE GOFFIC, elected to the French Academy in 1930, published about the ivory activity in Dieppe: "one of the most esteemed, Mr. Lefebvre, works in chambers for the merchants of Paris and specializes in luxury crucifixes".
