LANCI (MICHELAGELO). - Lot 276
LANCI (MICHELAGELO). Parte Quarta della seconda Opera Cufica di Michelangelo Lanci. In Italian, manuscript on paper, Italy, ca. 1847 63 ff., in leaves, preserved in a green portfolio. Size of the leaves : 205 x 280 mm. Michelangelo Lanci (1779-1867) was an Italian orientalist. He taught Arabic at the Sapienza in Rome. He is interested in kufic inscriptions, notably in Antiche scritture arabiche in papiri, pergamene e cartacei volumi; Trattado delle Simboliche rappresentanze arabiche, Paris, Stamperia orientale di Dondey-Dupré, 1845. A long note precedes the work: Originale della quarta parte dell'Opera cufica intitolata "Trattado delle simboliche rappresentanze arabiche...". Lanci indicates that he dedicates his work to Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia and that he entrusted the manuscript to the Duke of Luynes who was to keep it in the library of Dampierre.
