[NUMISMATICS] Set of files devoted to numismatics (Numismatic Notes). 62 "notebooks" + 42 files, with notes by the Duke of Luynes or his secretary, in Greek, Latin and French. Including : Index of subjects contained in the box entitled: Numismatics. - Catalogue of the main medals of Magna Graecia considered in their historical and archaeological reports. - Coins of Frederick II. - Persian and Phoenician coins: 11 plates engraved and annotated in pencil by the Duke of Luynes (dimensions of the engraved plates: 310 x 460 mm). - Numerous files on Greek, Sicilian, Punic and Iranian coins. In 1862, the Duke of Luynes donated an extraordinary collection of antiques (engraved stones, jewellery, ceramics, marbles, etc.) and 6925 coins to the Library, then imperial, including 4442 in the Greek collection. The rare insignia, as well as the exceptional quality of most of the coins, still make it one of the finest collections of Greek coins in the world today. This documentation is important to shed light on this collection and testifies to the Duke of Luynes' passion for numismatics.
