[ARCHAEOLOGY] [ROMAN GAULE]. [FORGING (ARTHUR)]. [PHOTOGRAPHY]. Roman vase, with mobile handle, found in the Seine. Dated 1858. Oval photograph, albumen print, mounted on cardboard. Caption in ink under the photograph; signature "Arthur Forgeais f[eci]t 1858" in the photograph. Size: 180 x 253 mm. Hippolyte Arthur Alcibiade Forgeais (18221878) was a French archaeologist, sigillographer and numismatist. He donated to the Musée céramique de Sèvres an important lot of Gallo-Roman pottery and medieval glazed earthenware from the bed of the Seine and from the excavations of the Parisian soil.
