STRADA, JACQUES DE. EPITOME OF THE THRESOR OF ANTIQUITIES, I.E. THE EPITOME OF THE REAL MEDALS OF THE EMP. Lyon, Jacques de Strada and Thomas Guérin, 1553. 1 vol. in-4. Modern pastiche binding of a fanfare binding, spine gilt title. First edition of the French translation, by Jean Louveau d'Orléans, of this work by Jacopo Strada. Completed to print on 2 December 1553, it was published the same year as the original Latin translation, dated 6 November. Abundant woodcut illustrations in the text, including more than 450 medals with the effigies of emperors on a black background, executed by Bernard Salomon, the appointed draftsman of Jean de Tournes' workshop. On the back of the title are the large coat of arms of J.-J. Fugger, to whom the book is dedicated. Important restorations in Japan, including on the title page.
