[DUFFOUR-DUBERGIER, Lodi-Martin, BIARNEZ et autres]. Chronicles of the castle of Gironville extracted from the Latin Chronicle of Turpin, the Arabic chronicle of Ben-Thamar, and a Norwegian poem of the ninth century. Illustrations by J.-A. Beaucé. Rare first edition not put in trade. "This banterful production tells the fabulous story of an estate located in the commune of Macau and belonging to Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, a rich merchant established in Bordeaux, mayor of this city from 1842 to 1848, who died in 1862. He had some of his friends as collaborators, notably Mr. Biarnez, wine broker, then merchant in Bordeaux." Quérard, Supercheries, t. 2, col. 186. The work is illustrated with a chromolithographed frontispiece and woodcuts, 24 of which are hors-texte. The text is framed in different colors.
