[ELBE]. Pianta dell'Isola d'Elba - Lot 306
[ELBE]. Pianta dell'Isola d'Elba Large plan of the island of Elba. Handwritten raised and watercolored map, captioned and names of places instructed; topographic map showing the reliefs of the island. Italy, ca. 1800-1802 Framed plan. Dimensions at sight: 880 x 1160 mm. By the treaty of Florence (1801) skilfully negotiated by the ambassador Charles-Jean-Marie Alquier (1752-1826), the island of Elba, former possession of the kingdom of Naples, passes under French control. Already the treaty of Saint-Ildefonse (October 1, 1800) between France and Spain envisaged the transfer of the island of Elba, then Tuscany, under French sovereignty in exchange of the principality of Piombino. This agreement was confirmed by the peace of Lunéville (February 9, 1801) and by the treaty of Aranjuez (March 25, 1801). The king of Naples Ferdinand IV gave up all the properties and rights that he still had there by the treaty of Florence (March 29, 1801). The island was officially annexed by France in 1802 and integrated into the Mediterranean department in 1811. It was given in all sovereignty to Napoleon I in 1814 (according to the Treaty of Fontainebleau of April 11, 1814) and he was exiled there during three hundred days.
