First half of the 19th century, half calf in tan glazed calf with corners, smooth spine decorated, green glazed calf title page, gilt place and date. 50 colored plates, including the title, drawn and etched by Thomas Rowlandson, inspired by The Miseries of Human Life written by Thomas Beresford. First published in 1806, this work is one of the most popular English satirical books of the early 19th century. Rare set, complete with the often-missing Pall Mall plate. First printing. Provenances: - E.-C.-A. Legrand with monogram E. C. L. gilt on the corner of the upper flyleaf. - Unidentified monogrammed bookplate in red. Wear to headpieces and corners; stain on lower right margin of title page.
