RUYSCH, Frederick Thesaurus animalium primus cum figuris aeneis - Het eerste cabinet der dieren. Amsterdam, Jan Wolters, 1710. 1 vol. small in-4. Full contemporary brown calf, spine ornamented, red calf title-piece, label at the head of the spine. Frontispiece, title, [27]ff, 42pp, 7 plates. Work illustrated with a frontispiece drawn and engraved in intaglio by C. Hüyberts and seven plates, two of which are folding. First edition. Text printed in Latin and Dutch. Only part published. Ruysch was a professor of anatomy in Amsterdam. His collection of anatomical and zoological oddities, including the specimens illustrated in this volume, was sold to Czar Peter the Great, many specimens still exist today. From the natural history library of Dr. Maurice Royer with exlibris. Lacks at corners and headpieces, binding rubbed; first folding plate: tear, second folding plate: restoration at upper corner and short margins.
