[RICHELIEU, Cardinal de] TÉRENCE. Pub Terentii comœdiæ sex Ex recenfiona Heinsiana. Leiden, Elzevier, 1635. 1 vol. in-18. Contemporary red morocco à la Duseuil, gilt arms in the centre of the boards, ornate spine, gilt author's name, green morocco lace lining decorated with irons representing theatrical masks, gilt paper endpapers with stamped frame. Edition of Terence's comedies printed by Bonaventure and Abraham Elzevier. The titles of the plays are in red and black. First of the five editions dated 1635 listed by Willems, no. 433: "Of these six editions [with the one dated 1661] the most beautiful and most esteemed is undoubtedly the first, which is a typographical masterpiece. ". The work is illustrated with an intaglio engraved title-frontispiece. > Copy in contemporary morocco with the arms of the Cardinal of Richelieu. From the Library of Ambroise Firmin-Didot with ex-libris. Handwritten bookplate on the verso of a flyleaf: Count Alphonse de la Guère. O.H.R. pl. 406, n° 4. Missing headpieces, cracks in the spine, wear to the corners.
